Burgeonvest Bick Rotarians Send Much Needed Aid for Haiti Relief
January 29, 2010
The 7.0 earthquake near the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince in mid January has caused the death of over 150,000. More pressing is the huge number of injured, needy and homeless Haitians that require urgent worldwide aid. My fellow Rotarians and Burgeonvest Bick colleagues Leonard Bick, John Knechtel and I are working through our Ancaster Rotary Clubs to send much needed aid.
Together, we are contributing $10,000 to the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Deschapelles, a town about forty miles northwest of Port-au-Prince. This facility is stretched to the limited, as supplies of medicine; food and fuel (for diesel generators) are in short supply. In addition, we are giving $2,000 to the Shelter Box program in an effort to supply urgently needed tent housing to the displaced, homeless Haitians. Each self contained, ten-person tent contains a multi-fuel stove, a water filtration system, pots, tools, blankets and ground sheets.
The Rotary Club of Ancaster has provided community service since 1978 in the Town of Ancaster and around the world. As sponsor for the Water For Life Project in the Artibonite Valley in Haiti, this Ancaster based group of volunteers has been able to impact the lives of thousands of people.
